My son told me many, many times- he said, “Mom, I don’t know why God has me in this world and why I have survived.” I mean, for many, many times in Guatemala and so forth, he was very close to being killed. And he used to tell me, “But I know God has me in this world because there is something special that I’m going to do. I don’t know what it is.” And he wanted to be an architect. “And everyone is going to remember who I am, and you are going to be very proud of me.Nora Mosquera about Jose Antonio Guttierez. Gutierrez left his orphanage in Guatemala, journeyed to the US, posed as a minor, and got to Torrence, California where Mosquera raised him as her own son.
And Gutierrez joined the marines. He died in a tank battle in southern Iraq. He was not a citizen of the United States.

In the tank battle, Gutierrez was killed by friendly fire.
